4 How to enter
By text message
Text the keyword shown on your invitation to the number given. Standard message and data rates may apply. Entry is complete when you confirm you are 18 or older.
Free alternate method of entry
To enter without sending a text message, email [email protected] with the subject line "Free Entry", stating your full name, age, and state of residence.
Free entrants play the same game. We deliver the same story, the same clues and the same prompts by email, on the same schedule as they are sent by text, and you answer by email. You are judged on the same criteria as every other entrant, and the route you entered by is not known to the judges. Entering free costs nothing, requires no text message, and neither improves nor reduces your chance of winning.
Free entrants are treated as opted out of marketing. We use what you send only to administer the Contest and to reach you if you win. Your address is not added to any marketing list, and we will not send you promotional messages because you entered this way. You cannot enter anonymously — we need some way to tell you that you have won — but that is the only thing we use it for.
Limit one entry per person and per phone number. Entries generated by script, macro or automated means are void.
5 How winners are determined
This is a contest of skill. Entrants take part in a collaborative mystery and submit solutions by text message. Submissions are judged by a panel appointed by Sponsor against the following criteria:
- Accuracy of the solution — 60%
- Reasoning shown in reaching it — 40%
Collaboration is part of playing, but it is deliberately not scored: entrants who play by email cannot collaborate the way a group of texters can, and no one should be judged on something the way they entered puts out of reach.
In the event of a tie, the entrant scoring highest on Accuracy wins. If a tie remains, Sponsor will pose a further tie-breaking question, judged on the same criteria. Judges' decisions are final and binding.
Because winners are determined by skill rather than chance, odds of winning depend on the number and quality of eligible entries received.
6 Prizes
PRIZE TABLE — confirm counts and ARV for each tier
- Grand Prize — QTY, a mystery experience arranged by Sponsor. ARV: $ARV each.
- Second-tier prizes — QTY. ARV: $ARV each.
- Participation rewards — QTY / conditions. ARV: $ARV each.
Total approximate retail value of all prizes: $TOTAL ARV.
The sponsor's gift is not a prize
At the end of a game, every player is offered a free download from our sponsor. It is given to all players equally, whether they win anything or not, and it is not part of the prize pool described above. It is not awarded by skill or by chance, and it has no bearing on judging.
General
Prizes are awarded as described and cannot be transferred. No substitution or cash equivalent, except that Sponsor may substitute a prize of equal or greater value if the stated prize becomes unavailable. All details of a prize not specified here are determined by Sponsor. Any portion of a prize not claimed is forfeited.
7 Winner notification and claiming
Winners are notified by text message to the number entered, or by email for free entries, within N days of the end of the Contest Period. A winner must respond within seven (7) days of notification. If a winner cannot be reached, does not respond in time, is ineligible, or declines, the prize is forfeited and may be awarded to the next highest-scoring entrant.
Sponsor may require a winner to sign an affidavit of eligibility, a liability release and, where lawful, a publicity release before a prize is awarded.
8 Taxes and reporting
All taxes on a prize are the winner's responsibility. For any prize with a value of $600 or more, United States tax law requires Sponsor to report the award to the Internal Revenue Service. Winners of such prizes must provide a full legal name, postal address and Social Security number or taxpayer identification number on an IRS Form W-9 before the prize is released, and will be issued a Form 1099.
We ask for this only from a confirmed winner, only after notification, and only to meet that legal obligation. We will never ask for it by text message.
9 General conditions
By entering you agree to these Rules and to Sponsor's decisions, which are final in all matters relating to this Contest. Sponsor may disqualify anyone who tampers with entry, violates these Rules, or acts in a way that is disruptive or unfair to other entrants.
If the Contest cannot run as planned — because of technical failure, unauthorized intervention, or any cause beyond Sponsor's reasonable control — Sponsor may suspend, modify or end it, and in that event will award prizes from eligible entries received up to that point.
10 Release of liability
By entering, you release Sponsor and its members, officers, contractors and agents from any claim, injury, loss or damage arising from taking part in the Contest or from accepting or using a prize, to the fullest extent permitted by law. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
11 Publicity
Except where prohibited by law, accepting a prize is your consent for Sponsor to use your first name, last initial and state of residence in announcing winners, without further payment. We will not publish your full name, phone number or photograph without asking you separately.
12 What you send us
You keep ownership of the messages you send. By entering, you grant Sponsor a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, store, reproduce and display your submissions for the purpose of running and judging the Contest, and for describing the Contest afterwards. You confirm your submissions are your own and do not infringe anyone else's rights.
13 Privacy
Information you give us is handled under our Privacy Policy.
Entering does not sign you up for marketing of any kind. Our text messages carry the game and nothing else, and we do not send promotional texts. Whichever route you enter by, we keep only what we need: contact details to reach you, and your submissions to judge them.
Free-entry details are deleted once the Contest closes and any prize has been awarded, except where we are required to keep a record.
14 Disputes
These Rules are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising from this Contest is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Utah. Entrants waive the right to claim punitive, incidental or consequential damages, and any award is limited to actual out-of-pocket costs of entering.
15 Winners list
For the names of winners, email [email protected] with the subject line "Winners List" within ninety (90) days of the end of the Contest Period.
